Five Minutes With: Bridget Hustwaite

Melbourne-based broadcaster, author and all-round tastemaker Bridget Hustwaite has been a beloved voice in Australian media for over a decade, building a career across TV, radio, live events and publishing — all powered by curiosity, connection and great taste.

From hosting triple j’s flagship programs to fronting major red carpets and live stages, Bridget brings a thoughtful, energetic presence (and a seriously cute sense of style) to everything she does. Alongside her work in media, she’s a passionate advocate for endometriosis awareness and the bestselling author of ‘How To Endo’ and ‘Figuring Out Thirty’.

We caught up with Bridget to talk creativity, confidence and current style obsessions. Here’s what we learned from our five minutes with Bridget Hustwaite.

01. How would you describe your style?

I’d describe my style as a bit of a mixed bag. The past couple of years living in Western Australia had me gravitating towards relaxed, flowy pieces, but now that I’m back in Melbourne, I love adding a little edge to my outfits. I don’t confine myself to a single aesthetic. I enjoy expressing different sides of myself through what I wear, mixing comfort with statement pieces, and keeping things playful and versatile.

02. Who are your style icons?

Tell you what, I am absolutely obsessed with Olivia Dean’s more formal approach to her on-stage wardrobe. She has the most breathtaking collection of dresses! It was the first thing I said to her when I met her in early 2025 at a music industry showcase that I was hosting and she was performing at. She is all class, a true dress connoisseur!

Locally, I’m a big fan of Melbourne creator Mary Tee who’s very sleek and also savvy with some vintage/thrifted finds. Across the pond in New Zealand, I love Lauren Brodie aka “elbee”, a fearless dopamine dresser who isn’t afraid to clash colours and prints!

03. What MIMCO PIECES ARE YOU CURRENTLY COVETING?

I love my black Fleur Day Bag, it fits SO much! My friend Alice has the Dolly Studded Shoulder Bag in Brandy and I’m obsessed with the hardware on that, it’s got such a cool grungy femme vibe. Big fan of the sugar scrunchie in lipstick red — super cute and reminds me of the Scandi girl aesthetic. And I’m so here for all the cherry accessories — the earrings and key chain are so fun!

04. WHAT’S YOUR ULTIMATE STYLING TIP?

I think it’s important to start with pieces you’ll actually reach for every day. Focus on finding pieces that feel like you and can move seamlessly through your day and your wardrobe, rather than something you save for special occasions. Life is too short to let your favourite pieces gather dust!

05. Is there a current trend that you are loving?

Excessive bag charms for sure! I think it’s such a playful way to personalise your look and switch up an outfit. There’s also something really nostalgic about collecting them and decorating your bags, my inner child is living for it!

06. How do you stay up to date with fashion trends?

TikTok and Instagram are my friends for that. They’re my most-used apps, so it feels like a really natural, real-time way to see how trends are showing up in everyday style.

07. What are the three essential accessories in your wardrobe?

A timeless pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses, a go-to black handbag and a small pair of gold or silver hoops. All versatile accessories that can make any outfit feel more put-together.

08. What’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of Mimco?

Legacy. Mimco is one of those brands that has been there throughout different stages of life — it carries such a rich history in Australian fashion but continues to evolve and I think that balance of familiarity and reinvention is what makes Mimco feel special and trusted. I feel like we’ve grown up together!

What are the key summer trends this party season?

This season is all about layering, texture and the personal touch. You can expect to see designs that nod subtly to the bohemian; bold, yet grounded  —  think croc-embossed leathers and suede fringe, soulful gold jewels with a worn-in vintage finish, and eclectic charms that evoke far-flung travels.
Red is a key colour to look out for — from rich cherry shades to deeper merlot tones. You’ll see it showcased beautifully across our new collection in versatile crossbody bags and chic and practical everyday totes alike.
Bag accessories are still having their moment, too, with even more ways to make your purse feel uniquely yours beyond our iconic charms. Our brand new bag necklaces and signature silk scarves offer new ways to get more styling mileage out of your Mimco pieces, switching up your look in seconds.

Wedding guest accessories?

When it comes to wedding guest accessories, function and form are essential. You also want to make a subtle statement from head to toe, so don’t stop with the basics. This season, it’s all in the details.
So, elevate your event look by embracing the eclectic allure of bohemian layering. Think shimmering necklace and wrist stacks adorned with semi-precious gems, unique pendants and charms that speak to you — a great way to add a pop of personality to your wedding guest outfit. The right bag is also a must. When investing in a handbag, you want to avoid choosing a style you’ll only wear once. So opt for pieces designed with versatility in mind. Handbags with detachable, removable straps, spacious interiors, and day-to-night appeal are a great option. For day ceremonies, top off your look with the perfect pair of stylish sunglasses. From cat-eye to aviator style, you can’t go wrong with a timeless yet modern frame.

What are the summer jewellery trends for 2026?

Modern bohemian sensibilities aren’t going anywhere; this runway-to-street-style staple is set to remain a defining jewel trend through Summer 2026. When it comes to nailing this look, layering is your best friend. Whether it's an eclectic, textured combination of necklaces, rings or bangles and bracelets — the stack is well and truly back. Tassels, semi-precious stones, baroque-inspired pearls and unique charms that feel plucked from a market stall abroad are grounded by vintage-inspired golds with a time-worn finish. It’s all about curating a free-spirited look with an elevated edge.
