Effie Kats is a third-generation designer, passionate about crafting beautiful, sophisticated evening wear that inspires confidence, self-expression, and femininity. Her entire process takes place in her Melbourne workshop, championing local trade, traditional craftsmanship, and Australian-made fashion. Effie and her beloved team focus on quality and care to ensure each garment remains in rotation for years to come, in hopes of contributing to a more sustainable future.
We recently collaborated with the Melbourne-based label on their new season runway show, providing the perfect Mimco accessories to complement each look.
Here's what we learned from our five minutes with Effie Kats.
01. How would you describe your style?
There's a duality to it. By day, I keep things minimal with clean silhouettes, subtle structure and pieces that are effortlessly wearable. At night, my look softens, with a little more drama and intuition. I'm lucky that between Effie Kats and Bayse Brand, I've created exactly what I love to wear, refined evening wear and elevated off-duty essentials.
02. Who are your style icons?
I've always loved Carine Roitfeld's style, she's classic but has an edge that keeps everything interesting and unexpected. Christine Centenera's minimal yet refined approach to style is also something that really resonates with me, she makes effortless look powerful. They both balance a polished look with individuality.

03. What MIMCO PIECES ARE YOU CURRENTLY COVETING?

04. WHAT'S YOUR ULTIMATE STYLING TIP?
Let the accessories lead. Keep your base outfit pared back so everything feels effortless. My go-to everyday look is always jeans, a tee and a blazer – it's simple but it gives me a clean canvas to play with. From there, I'll add accessories that elevate the look, whether it's a structured bag that pulls everything together or bold jewellery that makes a statement without being overdone. The right accessories instantly shift an outfit from casual to considered, and they allow you to show your personality without having to overthink the clothes themselves.
05. Is there a current trend that you are loving?
I'm really inspired by the return of draping - it's feminine, fluid and feels so uncomplicated, especially heading into the warmer months. And now, being pregnant, comfort has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Draped silhouettes offer that perfect balance; they move with you, which is exactly what I need right now. I'm also so excited to inject more colour into my wardrobe; after so many seasons of neutrals, it's refreshing to embrace a bolder palette in my new collections…
06. How do you stay up to date with fashion trends?
I naturally keep an eye on runways and street style, but I don't let trends dictate what I wear or design. For me, it's about taking what feels authentic and timeless, and interpreting it in a way that still feels personal.

07. What are the three essential accessories in your wardrobe?
A classic belt just like the Gaia from the November Collection, the Podium Twist Cuff as I love sculptural shaped pieces and the Alina shoulder bag which works from day to night. They're the pieces I reach for no matter what.
08. What's the first word that comes to mind when you think of Mimco?
Playful. Mimco has this ability to surprise - it's about fun, personality and the idea that accessories can transform your look without overcomplicating it.

What are the key summer trends this party season?
This event season is all about making a statement. You can expect to see plenty of bold designs continuing to shine throughout the warmer months. Think shimmering metallic bags, clutches with a sculptural edge, versatile crossbody bags in beautiful pastel hues like butter yellow and petal pink.
